Metallurgy/Research

Alloy Steel International (ASI) focuses on continuous improvement of their products and processes to improve the overall product quality. ASI has a metallurgy team which designs and develops ARCOPLATE grades and thicknesses by conducting scientific research. Alloy design of ARCOPLATE has been accomplished using thermodynamic calculations and optimizations, which help in improving wear and impact resistance, weldability between weld overlay and baseplate, and surface properties of ARCOPLATE.

Quality Control

ASI has 3 decades of history in manufacturing wear-resistant products and ASI does not compromise on quality of their products. ASI has established a quality control process flow to ensure the quality of ARCOPLATE by performing the required laboratory testing before supplying to customers.

Moreover, standard laboratory operation and calibration procedures of each equipment according to their corresponding ASTM/Australian standards are established to ensure the quality of testing. Our laboratory uses Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to document all test reports and analyze the results. Our laboratory has a range of laboratory equipment used for quality control and research purpose, which are listed as below.

In addition, ASI tests and assures the quality of raw materials used in manufacturing process of ARCOPLATE, which is also a part of ASI’s quality control process.

Our metallurgy team conducts root-cause analysis of worn ARCOPLATE (used in industry application) to investigate the wearing behavior and its microscopic properties by performing a series of tests.

It is well-known and scientifically proven that as wear resistance of alloy increasing its impact resistance decreases. Fixed-plant and mobile-plant industry applications usually demand alloys with either (i) High impact-low wear resistance, (ii) Moderate impact-moderate wear resistance or (iii) Low impact-high wear resistance properties. Therefore, it is crucial to select the right plate and grade for each application. We consider this phenomenon in the design of ARCOPLATE and therefore have developed different grades of ARCOPLATE according to the demand of industry applications.

Some industry applications demand customized fused alloy/base plate thicknesses. We also supply customized thicknesses along with routine stocked thicknesses. The following table presents stocked and customized thicknesses of ARCOPLATE.
